While reality TV star Donald Trump stirs up trouble for Republican contenders in the 2016 presidential race, Hillary Clinton will have her own challenger from television to worry about taking the Democratic ticket.

"The Good Wife" will pit Peter Florrick (Chris Noth) against Clinton as he tries to claim the Democratic nomination for President of the United States, according to TVLine. The seventh season storyline will align with the actual 2016 primary race, which kicks off on Feb. 1 with the Iowa Caucus.

"We're trying to parallel what's happening on our show with what's happening in reality," executive producer Robert King told TVLine.

King found it "amazing" that CBS was allowing them to structure their season around the real-life political race as well as go up against Clinton. The show will take a mighty risk in trying to predict storylines nearly two to three months ahead of time.

"The difficult thing for us is we started writing these scripts in June, so you're always kind of guessing where things are going," King said. "And we're stunned in politics how things change overnight. We're not sure if Biden will enter the race at this point. We have the ability to ADR some lines in if that's necessary, but we're kind of playing the betting game at this point."

The CBS drama has made reference to the sitting president Barack Obama on occasions and real-life politicos such as New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio and Democratic political strategist Donna Brazile have also guest starred on the show.

Peter will enlist national strategist Ruth Eastman (played by the incomparable Margo Martindale) for his presidential campaign. She hides her intelligence and cunning under a fake, folksy charm, which will inevitably create an interesting dynamic between her and Peter's longtime advisor Eli Gold (Alan Cumming).

While her estranged husband runs for president, Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) will try to restart her law career after a failed bid for State's Attorney. She will join forces with an experienced investigator, Jason Crouse (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), as she tries to start her own firm again.

"The Good Wife" returns on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. on CBS.
