The new trailer for Matt Damon’s upcoming movie “The Martian” was unveiled earlier today by 20th Century Fox. The 3-D flick, directed by Ridley Scott, is about an astronaut who gets stranded all alone on Mars after a space storm and how he copes with life on the planet until his rescue… or death.

As the trailer shows, astronaut Mark Watney (Damon) must figure out how to survive — with only 31 days worth of supplies like food and water — for up to four years before NASA can safely bring him back to Earth. “No matter what happens,” he says. “Tell the world, tell my family, that I never stopped fighting to make it home.”

Meanwhile, NASA and an international team of scientists are trying to help him from 140 million miles away. Also concocting a plot to save him are his crewmates from the botched mission.

In addition to Damon, the movie features a bevy of top actors: Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Sean Bean, Michael Peña, Donald Glover and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Filming for “The Martian” took place over the course of 72 days in Budapest, Hungary, in the fall of Nov. 2014, according to Entertainment Weekly. “We had a lot of fun,” Chastain told the magazine about filming. “Many long dinners and bottles of red wine.”

“The Martian,” based on the 2011 bestselling novel by Andy Weir, hits movie theaters Oct. 2.
