A University of Alabama chapter of the Alpha Phi sorority has taken down its recruitment video on YouTube after scoring more than 700,000 hits. The video has received a massive amount of negative attention, according to ABC News.

In the video, dozens of women run across a football field to jump into a lake while throwing glitter around. Critics have slammed the video as objectifying to women. Others have argued that many sorority recruitment videos are similar to this one. The University of Alabama released a statement about that the video "is not reflective of UA's expectations for student organizations to be responsible digital citizens," it said, ABC News reported.

The Alabama Alpha Phi has deleted its Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook pages since it became the object of national criticism, according to US Magazine.

The backlash began with an op-ed piece that called the video "worse for women than Donald Trump," according to The New York Daily News. For what it's worth, the video was a highly polished effort with a run time of about four minutes. It shows women in the sorority house, hanging out with the mascot and cavorting around school grounds.

Alpha Phi Alabama has not commented. Nor has the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs at UA. More than 36,000 students currently attend UA.
