Donald Trump is polling higher than ever, according to The Guardian. Trump's tally comes from the first major poll to be conducted after the Republican debate.

The CNN/ORC poll gathered data in Iowa, the first caucus state, from Aug. 7 to Aug. 10. It shows that Trump has surged ahead of his next-nearest Republican Presidential primary competitor, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. Trump polled at 22 percent. Ben Carson slipped into second place at 14 percent. Walker has fallen all the way to third place, netting just 9 percent of voters who took the poll, according to CNN.

Trump will be in the state Saturday for the Iowa State Fair. Walker was leading Iowa polls earlier this year. Some results showed him polling around 25 percent. Trump has risen steadily since then, but Walker isn't giving up the fight.

"Governor Walker continues to connect with voters in Iowa," Walker spokesperson AshLee Strong said, according to The Daily Caller.

Neither Trump nor Carson has ever held political office. Trump is a real estate mogul and reality TV star. Carson is a retired neurosurgeon. Trump has most recently been in the media for comments he made regarding Fox News anchor and debate moderator Megyn Kelly, remarks that many have viewed as offensive. The mini-scandal has apparently not affected Iowa voters.

The jury is still out on either of the current poll leaders and the rest of the Republican field, which includes 17 presidential contenders (so far). In the poll, 66 percent responded that they are still undecided about their final vote. Only 15 percent said their minds have already been made up, according to NBC News. The Iowa caucus does not actually take place until February 2016.
