An explosion in Borno, Nigeria killed at least 47 people on Tuesday, according to the BBC.  There have been 52 others injured so far.

The explosion occurred at Jebo livestock market in the town of Sabon Gari at 1:30 p.m. local time (12:30 GMT), according to the BBC.

This area is the epicenter of the Islamist militant group Boko Haram, the explosion the result of a targeted bomb attack, according to Reuters. Because of this, many believe Boko Haram to be behind the blast.

"According to sources in the area, this attack was carried out by a female suicide bomber who detonated her device," said reporter Ahmed Idris, according to Al Jazeera.

Most of those injured are in critical condition, and many expect the death toll to rise dramatically, according to Al Jazeera.

These raids and bombings are a way of life in this area; more than 600 people having been killed since President Muhammada Buhari took office on May 29. He vowed to stop Boko Haram from setting up an Islamic state in Nigeria, according to Reuters.

With the help of troops from Chad, Niger, and Cameroon, the army has pushed out Boko Haram militants from most of the Borno state, according to Al Jazeera, but attacks are once again on the rise.

No one has yet to take responsibility for the blast, according to Reuters.
