Tom Hardy is no stranger to comic book films. The "Mad Max: Fury Road" star famously starred as the villainous Bane in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" and was slated to play Rick Flagg in 2016's "Suicide Squad" before scheduling issues forced him to drop out. But fear not, panel lovers, as Hardy may yet be returning to some juicy comic book source material.

The Hollywood Reporter says that hardy will produce an adaption of Vertigo's "100 Bullets" and is in negotiations with New Line Cinema to star in the film as well.

The comic series, which was launched by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso in 1999 and concluded its run in 2009, follows the mysterious Agent Graves as he provides carefully chosen candidates with a briefcase containing a handgun and 100 bullets with the guarantee that whatever they choose to do will not be held against them legally. The story is a dark modern-noir with flashes of action and drama.

Chris Borrelli ("The Vacation Tapes") wrote the screenplay which is said to remain faithful to the comics. "100 Bullets" will join Joseph Gordon-Levitt's planned Sandman film as New Line's first two properties from the Vertigo comic label. Though both are under the Warner Bros/DC Comics label, the studio announced back in June that they would be keeping the titles separate so as not to interfere with their growing DC Extended Universe superhero films.

David Goyer previously attempted to bring the comic line to life via a Showtime TV series, though nothing official ever came of it.

Hardy can next be seen opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in "The Revenant" and as twins the gangster epic "Legend."
