HBO doesn't only deal in ice zombies and dragons; they also involve themselves with self-aware gun slinging androids. How's that for bold programming?

The premium cable network has unveiled the first teaser for their upcoming sci-fi drama "Westworld," an adaptation of the classic 1973 Michael Crichton film of the same name.

Created by Jonathan Nolan (whose brother you may know of from a few key Batman films) and Lisa Joy, the new sci-fi thriller is described as "a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin."

Brining this high-minded entertainment to life is a star-studded cast that includes Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton and Jeffrey Wright.

The original film took place in a resort known as Delos where wealthy patrons could stay in one of three areas that recreate historical time periods with humanoid robots instead of actors. The areas are West World, Medieval World and Roman World. It is unknown if the new series will introduce all three zones or how much of the original source material it will include.

"Westworld" will debut on HBO at some point in 2016.
