Eight people were shot and killed at a house in Houston, Texas Saturday evening. The man who shot the victims, consisting of five children and three adults, surrendered to the police, according to Reuters.

The incident took place after deputies were called to a home at 2211 Falling Oaks at around 9 p.m. to conduct a welfare check.

No one responded at the front door when they arrived, and they obtained new info that a man inside the house was wanted for a warrant for assaulting a family member, KHOU reported.

The sergeant on the scene then called a High Risk Operations Unit, and while waiting for it to arrive, the police surrounded the home and saw a juvenile's body through a window.

Four of the deputies then forced their way inside the home, where they were confronted by the 49-year-old suspect, who began shooting at them. The suspect eventually surrendered an hour later without incident, according to the New York Daily News.

The identities of the victims remain unknown, and no further details are available as of this time.
