Sean Price, a veteran Brooklyn hip-hop artist, passed away on Saturday at the age of 43, the New York Daily News reported.

Price was known for his work as part of rap duo Heltah Skeltah and the group Boot Camp Clik. His record label, New York City-based Duck Down Music, released a statement confirming Price's death.

"It is with beyond a heavy heart that Duck Down Music is sadly confirming that Sean Price passed away early this morning in his Brooklyn apartment, Saturday, August 8th, 2015," the statement read, according to Rolling Stone.

"The cause of death is currently unknown, but it was reported that he died in his sleep," the statement continued. "He's survived by his wife, and his three children. Sean's family and friends are asking for time to grieve and process the news. Further details will be issued when more information is available."

Price rose to fame under the alias Ruck as part of the hip-hop duo Heltah Skeltah, performing with his partner Rock (Jahmal Bush), according to Billboard. Together, they released their 1996 album "Nocturnal." Heltah Skeltah was also part of the Brooklyn hip-hop super group Boot Camp Clik.

The rapper went on to release three solo albums under his given name, 2005's "Monkey Barz," 2007's "Jesus Price Superstar" and 2012's "Mic Tyson." He was scheduled to release a mixtape titled "Songs in the Key of Price" later this month.
