Just hours after a truck bomb was detonated near the center of Kabul, Afghanistan, a suicide bomber attacked a police academy in the city. The attacker set off the explosives Friday evening just as the academy's cadets were getting back from a break.

Deputy Interior Ministry Spokesman Najib Danish said the detonation happened close to the academy itself, in a crowded area near the entrance. He also stated "casualties are expected" because of the incident, according to MSN News.

The suicide bomber, who was wearing a police uniform, was able to place himself in the middle of a queue before setting off the explosives on his body. The students were waiting in line to be searched before returning to the academy grounds, reported Reuters.

"The bomber was wearing a police uniform and detonated his explosives among students who had just returned from a break," said a police official.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.

Quoting an official from one of the ambulances who responded to the scene, a local television network said eight people were killed because of the attack. However, no official statement has been released yet regarding the exact specifics of the incident's casualties.

The suicide bombing is the second major attack in the city, coming less than 24 hours after a truck bomb was detonated in central Kabul, killing 15 civilians and injuring 240 others.
