At about 6:45 a.m. this morning, passengers at Nashville International Airport witnessed flames coming from a jet on the tarmac, according to the Tennessean.

Shannon Sumrall, spokeswoman for the airport, said the aircraft was a Delta Air Lines plane that was headed to Cincinnati. The flames began after the engines were turned on, but were quickly extinguished on their own when the engine was turned off, according to the Tennessean.

Michael Thomas, Delta Air Lines spokesman, gave the following statement after the incident, according to USA Today: "Prior to departure, SkyWest flight 4811, operating as Delta Connection, from Nashville to Cincinnati, experienced a brief flame upon engine start-up, which immediately dissipated. There was no fire and no emergency was declared. Technicians are evaluating the CRJ-200 aircraft and we are working to help customers resume their travel as quickly as possible. The safety of our customers and SkyWest people is our top priority."

At the time of the incident, there were 50 passengers and three crew members on board.

No injuries were reported. After the incident, the aircraft was taken back to the terminal where passengers were transferred to another flight, according to the Dayton Daily News.
