Actress Ashley Judd and Racer Dario Franchitti have decided to end their long term marriage, reports People.

"We have mutually decided to end our marriage. We'll always be family and continue to cherish our relationship based on the special love, integrity, and respect we have always enjoyed," Judd, 44, and Franchitti, 39, told People in a statement released Tuesday.

The couple got married in 2001 after being engaged for two years. They do not have any children. Besides her acting career, Judd is highly involved in humanitarian activities. She has supported several charity foundations and her dedication towards humanitarian work made her a global ambassador for YouthAIDS. Her political interests also led her to represent Tennessee as a delegate at the 2012 Democratic National Convention during the re-election of President Obama.

Judd's acting career was at a peak in late 1990s when she played leading roles in thriller movies including "Kiss the Girls" and "Double Jeopardy."

Three-time Indianapolis 500 champion, Franchitti appeared on a few television talk shows including "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," "Late Show with David Letterman," "Live with Regis and Kelly" and "Jim Rome is Burning."

The couple had a private wedding ceremony at Skibo Castle, Scotland, in 2001 where Judd's sister, Wynonna Judd, was the maid of honor and Franchitti's brother Mario was the best man.
