Nikon has officially announced the COOLPIX S02 digital compact camera with few modifications to its predecessor COOLPIX S01.

Nikon, world's second largest manufacturer of optics and imaging products, announced in a press release Thursday, a new addition to its digital compact camera family. The all-new COOLPIX S02 packs advanced functions and stylish designs. Nikon's latest addition is the successor to the COOLPIX S01, which is the company's smallest and lightest digital compact camera.

Nikon COOLPIX S02 is not far from its predecessor, but has some notable features. The new model measures just 3.1 inches by 2.1 inches with a 0.7 inch thickness and weighs only 3.6 ounces, which can fit in the smallest of hands and pockets. It packs 3x optical zoom NIKKOR lens for a broad viewing angle of 30mm to 90mm, a 2.7-inch 230K-dot-resolution touch screen, and a 13-megapixel CMOS sensor, according to the company.

Due to the small size of the camera, the battery and the memory is built in. It can be charged with standard USB and takes up to 210 shots. The internal memory is 7.3 GB and it cannot be expanded further.

"The new COOLPIX S02 is Nikon's latest super sleek offering to give consumers a simple way to achieve exceptional image quality with stylish flair," Bo Kajiwara, Vice President of Marketing, Planning and Customer Experience, Nikon Inc, said in a press release. "The COOLPIX S02 is user-friendly, making it great for capturing memorable moments in an instant with ease."

The built-in CMOS sensor captures full HD videos at 1920 x 1080p, 30-fps with a better image quality even in dark conditions. The camera includes high-output xenon flash to capture every detail with backgrounds in natural resolutions.

The Nikon COOLPIX S02 will be available in traditional silver, white, and pink with a new addition of blue color. The price of the digital camera is set at $179.95 and will be available by late September.
