UPDATE, 11:45 AM, 8/5: According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans plan to sign Thomas Wednesday.

As is always the case, a training camp injury has spurred movement on the NFL free agent front. Long-time New Orleans Saints running back Pierre Thomas is, per a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, on his way to visit with the Houston Texans. Per Rapoport, Thomas will take a physical, meet with coaches and, "if all goes well," they hope to sign him.

Thomas, 30, carried a fair portion of the load during his time with the Saints, but was never what you could rightly consider a bell-cow back. His career-high in rushing yards is just 793, which came during the 2009 season. He is quite versatile though and has caught at least 39 balls each year over the past four seasons, topping out at 77 receptions and 513 yards receiving in 2013.

After Arian Foster's reported groin injury from earlier today, the Texans depth at running back suddenly looked very suspect. Alfred Blue is likely to take over the top spot in Foster's absence, but with the talented but oft-injured Chris Polk currently on the shelf as well, a move for depth was sorely needed, especially for a Texans team that is already facing questions at quarterback and was likely hoping to be powered by their run game in 2015.
