The Washington Wizards currently have 15 players on their roster with guaranteed contracts. Because of this there isn't expected to be much competition at the Wizards training camp as the 15 guys with guaranteed contracts are likely to be the 15 to make the team. Due to the fact that the Wizards have their roster pretty much locked in, undrafted rookie Dez Wells is expected to turn down their training camp invite, according to J. Michael of CSN Washington.

Wells was supposed to be part of the Wizards' summer league team but ended up not playing in a single summer league game after he dislocated his thumb in mini-camp before the team made its way to Las Vegas. Wells is just getting back to doing basketball activities and should be ready for training camp.

While Wells is expected to turn down the Wizards, he is still going to be in camp with some team more than likely, as it is being reported that he has training camp invites from five other teams. Wells will decide which team gives him the best chance to make its NBA roster.

The Wizards reportedly almost drafted Wells in the second round a couple of months back but they instead decided to go with forward Aaron White, who will be playing in Germany this season.

Wells is a 6-foot-5 guard from the University of Maryland where he spent three years after transferring from Xavier. In his three years at Maryland his shooting percentage went down each year but his scoring average went up. In his three years as a Terrapin. Wells averaged 14.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while shooting 49 percent from the field and 37 percent from three.

Wells didn't shoot the three ball all that often in college (only 227 attempts in four years), but when he did shoot it he made them at a good percentage. Wells' best asset is his ability to drive the ball to the rim at will and finish amongst the big men. Wells also has pretty good size for a shooting guard and will be able to defend at the next level as he was a great defender at Maryland. Wells will likely spend the majority of his time this upcoming season in the D-League, but he has a chance to make a roster depending on which team he decides to go to camp with.
