The staff at Dona Elmíria Silvério Barbosa hospital in the Brazilian city of Sidrolândia witnessed the pure love and loyalty of a dog firsthand.

An 82-year-old woman was brought to the hospital because of a life-threatening disease. Her dog possibly sensed that she was unwell, and was uncertain of her return. So the dog, who was left alone at home, tracked down his owner by following a family member to the hospital door.

When he got there, the dog waited for eight days — everyday and every night. He stayed at the hospital doors and refused to budge.

"He looked inside like he was waiting for someone and would not leave," said Olga Caroline Baldin, a receptionist at the hospital, reported G1 Globo News. "He stood at the ready, looking inside, waiting — it was impressive. There were times when people had to jump through the hospital entrance because he didn't move for anyone."

Sadly, the old woman died from asthmatic bronchitis.

Because of the impressive and incredible loyalty of the dog, many people wanted to adopt him. Wanda Camilo, the facility's director, arranged for him to stay at a foster home until he finds a new family.

"Many people want to adopt him. Many people came to me to want to take the dog — I received many calls. Even a doctor of ours wanted to adopt," said Camilo, according to the Dodo.
