Ray Allen is now 40 years old and was out of the league last year. Despite not playing a single game or signing with a team last season Allen has reportedly not ruled out a return to playing in the NBA. Allen said he won't officially retire yet just in case according to Dom Amore of the Hartford Courant.

Allen reportedly said that anywhere form a quarter to half of the teams in the NBA tried to sign him last season but none of them were the right fit. Despite not signing last season he says there still remains the small possibility that he will return if the circumstances are right.

"I haven't said anything about that and I won't officially retire, because if something came to the table, contractually and situational-ly, I want to be able to take a strong look at it. I don't want to be that guy that says he's retiring and then is coming back," said Allen.

Allen is looking to go back to UConn to get the remaining credits he needs to get his degree in communications. Allen said that in his year off from basketball he didn't really miss it and he enjoyed being home with his family until the Finals came around.

"I probably missed it in the Finals. Watching Cleveland and Golden State play, it just seemed like an epic battle that required a lot of precision on the floor and that's when I felt, that was probably the only time that I felt like, 'Man, I should have been out there," said Allen.

Allen is a surefire Hall of Famer whenever he does officially decide to retire as he played 18 years in the league, was a ten-time all-star and two-time NBA Champion. Allen also retired as the leader in all-time three point makes in his career with 2973.

Allen last played in 2013-14 with the Miami Heat when he averaged 9.6 points and 2.8 rebounds per game while shooting 44 percent from the field and 38 percent from three. Allen's shooting percentages in his last NBA season were still right around his career shooting percentages and he could probably still knock down the three consistently. Things may change but as of right now it doesn't seem like Allen has the itch to play in the NBA anymore but the fact that he won't officially retire means there is a possibility of a comeback.
