The Dallas Cowboys raised some eyebrows around the NFL when they opted not to match Philadelphia's sizable offer to free agent running back DeMarco Murray earlier this offseason. Murray, coming off the best season of his career in which he led the league in rushing with more than 1,800 yards, was Dallas' offensive MVP last year.

But owner Jerry Jones and the rest of the front office believed in Dallas' offensive line, which features three former first-round picks and the talented La'El Collins, was good enough to help any ball carrier find space. As such, the Cowboys appear content heading into the regular season with Joseph Randle as their lead back.

However, if an unfortunate injury were to strike or if the coaches just wanted to add an extra body to be safe, former St. Louis Rams and Atlanta Falcons running back Steven Jackson has made it known he is available. Jackson tweeted the not-so-subtle message last week.

Unfortunately, the 32-year-old veteran may not have much to offer the Cowboys, even without Murray in the backfield. Jackson averaged just 3.6 yards-per-carry over the last two seasons with Atlanta and missed four games due to injury. There's a strong chance that fans have seen Jackson's last carry in the NFL.

Still, the Cowboys' running back situation is worth monitoring throughout training camp.
