James Woods is taking a Twitter user to court for sending libelous Tweets to the Oscar-nominated actor, calling him a "cocaine addict."

Woods has filed a $10 million lawsuit against the anonymous individual using the Twitter handle "Abe List," in the Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday for defamation over the derogatory Tweet, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In reply to a Tweet, Woods posted on the social networking platform about media priorities, the user commented "cocaine addict James Woods still sniffing and spouting." The account has since been removed from Twitter, The Guardian reports.

The complaint reads that Woods "is not now, nor has ever been, a cocaine addict, and AL had no reason to believe otherwise." The lawsuit also states that the Twitter user's "reckless and malicious behavior, through the worldwide reach of the Internet, has now jeopardised Woods' good name and reputation on an international scale."

"AL, and anyone else using social media to propagate lies and do harm, should take note. They are not impervious to the law," the complaint adds.

The complaint mentions that the Twitter user has called the "White House Down" actor derogatory terms such as "prick," "joke," "ridiculous," "scum" and "clown-boy," in the past and although these words can be seen as non-actionable opinion, the use of "cocaine addict" is closer to defamation.

In the lawsuit, Woods did not state whether or not he attempted to block the user from following him on Twitter, or if he ever filled out a form to report the Tweets, an option that allows users to complain against offensive, harmful or insensitive posts, according to New York Daily News.
