In his first year as an NBA head coach Steve Kerr had about as good of a year as he could have ever hoped for. He led the Golden State Warriors to 67 wins (a record for a rookie head coach) and an NBA Championship. While Kerr finished second in the NBA Coach of the Year voting it would be hard to get him to argue against the fact that his year went almost perfectly.   Unfortunately it's not all great news for Kerr though as he is reportedly expected to undergo back surgery in Los Angeles to address a herniated disk according to Monte Poole of CSN Bay Area.

Kerr was in Lake Tahoe and was scheduled to play in the American Century Celebrity Golf Classic but couldn't participate because of the discomfort in his back.

"I was supposed to play in the tournament but my back is acting up so I'm just enjoying the lake and the scenery, can't play this year unfortunately," said Kerr.

The 49 year old head coach appears to be in good spirits about the procedure as he enjoys his summer, but he is known as an avid golfer and likely wouldn't miss a chance to golf unless there was really something wrong.

Kerr will reportedly be out for the summer but while he recovers the Warriors have some business to take care of before they open training camp in September. The first order of business is to fill in the associate head coaching position left vacant by Alvin Gentry. Luke Walton is reportedly the favorite to land that gig but there hasn't been any further word on that since the Warriors said they would make an announcement soon. Another order of business for the Warriors to attend to is getting Harrison Barnes signed to an extension before the season starts. Barnes has stated he wants to stay in Golden State it is now just a matter of figuring out terms.
