Several days after the launch of the 2016 Mazda MX-5, also known as the Miata in the U.S., test drive impressions and reviews are finally rolling in, allowing car enthusiasts a comprehensive look at the new launch edition before purchasing.

The majority of reviews have been positive so far, prompting early and eager buyers such as those previously reported by HNGN. The consensus is that the 2016 Mazda MX-5 is fun to drive as it perfected a tradition of style, handling and transmission. Forbes noted that these facilitate a user friendly driving and cruising experience given that the roadster is small, light and balanced. Naturally, the report declared that the 2016 Mazda MX-5 is by far the best MX-5 yet. Another review added that the design and feel of the recent variant became a little more masculine (see video below).

A more technical perspective on the test drive proves that the 2016 Miata is no slouch either. It is powered by a 2.0-liter DOHC in-line 4-cylinder engine, which is enough to produce 155 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. There is also a 6-speed manual standard equipment and a 6-speed automatic transmission option, which TFL Car noted with glee. Its report highlighted how the impressive hardware is translated into graceful and nimble performance on the road. This is not surprising because the present model has a better power-to-weight ratio.

Consumers holding out with their purchases are in for more positive news. There is a rumor, amid the positive impressions generated so far, that the 2016 Mazda MX-5 will have a turbocharged variant. This stemmed from an interview with Kudo Hidetoshi, Mazda's US PR manager, who said that the company is seriously considering a larger displacement engine, in a Practical Motoring report.
