A Caucasian woman, 29, died in police custody on Sunday that prompted Homicide and Internal Affairs to investigate.

The Texas woman fell into police custody after she caused a disturbance in a business establishment in northwest Houston, according to myfoxhouston.com.

She was cleared by EMS and the Houston Fire Department before police took her to jail on a public intoxication charge.

On most of the ride to the jail, the unnamed woman was still lucid and had been chatting with the police officers, according to KPRC Houston. However, upon their arrival at the southeast Houston jail, she became unresponsive.

The Houston Fire Department was summoned a second time and was able to revive her. She was brought to Ben Taub Hospital, where she later died, reports said.

Police claimed the woman had a history of drug abuse, but an autopsy will be conducted that could determine if narcotics played a part in the woman's death and to aid the investigation of Homicide and Internal Affairs.
