After decades of strong ties between Bill Cosby and the historically black women's school, Spelman College has ended its funded professorship with the embattled comedian and actor. The professorship was funded through an endowment that Cosbie and his wife Camille donated $20 million to in 1987, according to CNN.

The William and Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby Endowed Professorship was originally suspended in December amid growing accusations of sexual assault against Cosby, according to the New York Daily News.

The official discontinuation of the professorship comes a week after a copy of a 2005 deposition was obtained by CNN in which Cosby admitted to acquiring Quaaludes he intended to give to women with whom he wanted to have sex.

Cosby has been accused of sexual assault by more than two dozen women. Most of these women claim that Cosby gave them drugs without their knowledge. To this day, Cosby has never been criminally charged. He has both repeatedly and publicly denied any and all wrongdoing, according to CNN.

"The William and Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby Endowed Professorship at Spelman College has been discontinued and related funds have been returned to the Clara Elizabeth Jackson Carter Foundation," said Spelman College spokesperson Audrey Arthur in a statement on Friday, according to USA Today.

Cosby has had ties to the institution for many years. Two of his daughters attended Spelman College. His son attended Morehouse College, a well-known men's college that has strong ties to Spelman College, according to CNN.
