It's been a very hot and cold relationship for Katy Perry and John Mayer over the last couple of years, but once again, they have decided to call things off.

As of Thursday, the two have officially broken up, again, a source has told E! News. It is unclear why they have made this decision, but given their history of getting back together, there could be a chance that this isn't over forever.

Perry, 30, and Mayer, 37, got back together in January, marking this break-up their fourth over the years, according to the Daily Mail. The split comes just a few weeks after they spent the 4th of July together in Chicago.

They were first spotted together in June 2012 cuddling in Los Angeles, the New York Daily News reported. However, they broke up just a few months later, only to get back together two weeks after that. They recorded a song entitled "Who You Love" in 2013 with a very PDA-filled music video.

"For the first time in my life, I don't feel like I'm in a celebrity relationship," Mayer said early last year. "For me, it feels like something that's very human." They then broke up again a few months after Mayer said this because of busy schedules and their age gap.

As for Mayer, he's quite the ladies man, having dating many other celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Jennifer Aniston and Minka Kelly. For Perry, he was her first serious relationship after her divorce from Russell Brand in 2011.

Will the two be getting back together? Only time will tell.
