Detroit has been announced as the next Gotham City. According to MTV, the "Man of Steel" sequel is going to be filmed in metro Detroit and throughout the state of Michigan. It was rumored at one point that the movie, which still hasn't been given an official title, was going to be shot in Vancouver.

The Michigan Film Office broke the news but the exact start date of filming hasn't been revealed yet even though production is expected to start at the beginning of 2014.

"Detroit is a great example of a quintessential American city, and I know it will make the perfect backdrop for our movie," director Zack Snyder said in the press release. "Detroit and the entire state of Michigan have been fantastic collaborations, and we are looking forward to working together on this film."

"This project will further strengthen the reputation of Michigan and metro Detroit as a premier film destination. We look forward to the spotlight shining on our incredibly talented workforce and the businesses that support our film industry here in Michigan," Margaret O'Riley, the director of the Michigan Film Office added.

Detroit has recently been in the news for filing a Chapter 9 bankruptcy in July, making it the largest city by population in the United States to do so. According to the press release, Detroit was chosen because it was "awarded an incentive of $35 million on $131 million of projected in-state expenditures."

The production will be a good boost to their economy and is expected to hire over 400 Michigan workers to help with the film. The movie also plans on using over 500 vendors throughout production and spending almost $5.1 million on local hotels.

According to MTV, there's been no word on whether the locations used in the first "Man of Steel" will be used again. For Metropolis and Plano the movie was shot in Chicago and Smallville was shot in Illinois.
