The pit bull sustained a gunshot wound to the right front leg and is currently being cared for at the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission, according to the Associated Press.

Karen Sparapani, the director for the organization, said that people might be "amped up or afraid" by the reports of lion sightings in the area.

Police also revealed that the man who shot the dog has yet to be identified, according to the Chicago Tribune.
