Kelly Clarkson is covering a new song most every night of her current Piece By Piece tour, and at the Buffalo, N.Y., gig Tuesday night, she wowed the crowd with her soulful take on *NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye.”

The very first “American Idol” winner introduced the song by saying, “Tonight, it’s fun because this is a throwback to our junior high days, and a lot of people in our crew are very excited about this one.” Clarkson also said the song was requested by a fan named Alicia.

The 33-year-old performed “Bye Bye Bye” acoustically and slower than the boy band’s original version, which really showcased her vocal talents and proved the song isn’t as hokey as most people remember.

Clarkson thanked the Buffalo audience on Twitter:

Sunday night, at Pittsburgh’s First Niagara Pavilion, the mother of 13-month-old River Rose covered Rihanna’s “Stay,” and, last week, she sang Nick Jonas’ “Jealous,” as previously reported by HNGN.

“It was an amazing cover,” Jonas told “Entertainment Tonight.” “We’re actually touring together later this year, so it was nice to see her throwing some love my way, and I’m a big fan myself.”

Clarkson began her new tour earlier this month, and it’s set to run through mid-October—so who knows what song she’ll cover next!
