For a man covered in tattoos, it's hard to think that such a small finger tattoo could have such a significant meaning, but David Beckham's newest ink may be the most meaningful of them all.

The 40-year-old soccer stud only joined Instagram a few months ago, but he's been making up for it with some great photos. He took to the social media site Wednesday night to show off his newest tat. "99 was a good year for me..." he captioned the photo of his knuckles. So, what makes the year 1999 so special for David Beckham?

1999 was the year he married the love of his life, Victoria Beckham. The two tied the knot on July 4 of that year at a castle near Dublin while they played king and queen, sitting on red velvet thrones while Elton John performed, according to E! News.

Beckham posted a photo of the happy couple just two weeks ago on their anniversary. "16 years ago today was our special day," he wrote. "16 years on we have our beautiful children. Thank you for giving me our amazing little ones...Happy anniversary."

The couple has four children together: Brooklyn, 16, Romeo, 12, Cruz, 10, and Harper, 4. That same year, their first child, Brooklyn, was also born, so it's a huge year for the happy family, according to Buzzfeed.

Family aside, 1999 was also one of his biggest years during his soccer career. He helped his team at the time, Manchester United, become the first U.K. team to win "The Treble," which is the Premier League trophy. They also won the FA Cup and the UEFA Champoions League trophy that season. So all in all, 1999 was pretty much the most eventful and exciting year of Beckham's life, and now he has this tattoo to remember it all.
