Country singer Daron Norwood has passed away at 49 years old, the Associated Press reported. The "Cowboys Don't Cry" singer was found dead in his apartment in Hereford, Texas on Thursday.

Investigators do not suspect foul play, Capt. Kirsten Williams, Hereford police spokeswoman, told AP. A cause of death is pending, and his body shows no signs of trauma.

Norwood's body was found by his landlord on Wednesday afternoon. Officers responded to a call about an unresponsive subject at around 2 p.m., Police Chief Brant Harrison told E! News. Norwood's death is currently under investigation.

The singer was last seen on Tuesday night with friends, according to reports. Norwood's landlord went to his apartment to check on him and found his body in a bedroom after he let himself in. Norwood had struggled with alcohol and drug abuse in the past, but he had been sober since 1995, according to a 2002 interview with Country Weekly.

Norwood released his debut self-titled album in 1994, and the three singles from the record placed on Billboard's U.S. Hot Country Songs chart, including his hit "Cowboys Don't Cry." He went on to record two more albums, and he looked forward to continuing his music career after gaining sobriety.

"Through my music, I can let people know there is a country singer out here who cares about them. There's a guy who's trying to do it different. And trying to be, not perfect, but the best he can be," he told Country Weekly. "And I'm trying to keep it straight. That's it, brother."
