Singing sensation Donny Osmond canceled some of his upcoming shows because he's undergoing surgery on his vocal cords, reported People.

Doctors found a hemorrhagic polyp, or a bleeding lesion, on the 57-year-old's right vocal cord during a recent examination. It's a vibratory injury in the vocal fold, and can occur because of vocal trauma or sudden and extreme overuse of the voice, that may result in hoarseness, according to Bastian Medical Media.

Harvard Medical School's Dr. Steven M. Zeitel will be treating Osmond. The doctor performed similar procedures on other stars like John Mayer, Lionel Richie and Adele.

Osmond was scheduled to perform with his sister Marie at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora, Ill., next month,  reported the local paper, Kane County Chronicle. The show is postponed until May.

He also had a solo gig slated for Sunday, Sept. 6, in Cleveland at the Hard Rock Rocksino, but that was also postponed, reported local news site Cleveland.com. Previously purchased tickets for the event will be honored in January.

The star is expected to recover in time for the "Donny and Marie" residency in October at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, according to People.

Osmond rose to stardom in the 1970s as the singer for The Osmonds, the singing group made up of the six Osmond brothers. He also was the co-star of the "Donny and Marie" show from 1976-79, a variety show with his sister.
