Martin Freeman will join the Marvel universe in next year's "Captain America: Civil War," but will he be Team Iron Man or Team Captain America? Freeman recently teased that his yet unnamed character could be manipulating both sides of the battle.

The English actor revealed a few of his character traits (such as his own "East Coast American" accent) while attending the Griffoni International Film Festival, according to Entertainment Weekly. He works for the American government and in conjunction with the superheroes, but he doesn't have any extraordinary powers of his own.

The character's work with the government would seem to place him on the side of Tony Stark, who is in favor of the Superhuman Registration Act. It may not be that simple though.

"You're not quite sure what side he's on. It looks a little like he's playing one guy when actually he's playing the other," Freeman told the Italian outlet BadTaste. "It's the kind of character I love because it's ambiguous and because you don't know whether he's, you know, good or bad. I like that area, that isn't black or white. I like more grey areas because there's more to be had in not playing one obvious line."

HitFix floated the idea that Freeman's description matches closely with the Marvel character Henry Peter Gyrich, a CIA (or NSA) agent and occasional liaison to the Avengers. His physical appearance in the comics also looks like "The Hobbit" star.

"Captain America: Civil War" is currently shooting in Atlanta and will premiere in theaters on May 6, 2016.
