San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers, much like the city in which he resides and the franchise for which he plays, faces a very uncertain future. As the elite, Super Bowl-caliber signal-caller of the Chargers since being drafted in the first-round of the 2004 NFL Draft (insert mandatory pouty-faced Eli Manning reference) Rivers has enjoyed a fairly turbulence-free 11-year tenure at the top for the Bolts. He's seen quite a bit of success, endured his fair share of failure - most notably during the uber-frustrating Marty Schottenheimer years - and still clearly represents the Chargers best chance at a Lombardi Trophy in the near future.

To that end, the Chargers are reportedly hopeful of getting Rivers signed to a new long-term deal, according to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune. Unfortunately, Rivers, it seems, has reportedly shown "little urgency" where his current and potentially future pact with the team is concerned.

While there was talk prior to the 2015 NFL Draft that San Diego GM Tom Telesco and head coach Mike McCoy were both enamored with former Oregon signal-caller Marcus Mariota and concerned over Rivers' disinterest in reworking his deal prior to its expiration, no major deals were struck, nothing changed in terms of Rivers' status as the starter and the Chargers are now set to enter the 2015 NFL season with an enviable amount of status quo on offense.

Status quo, of course, is good for a Chargers franchise hopeful of a return to the postseason next year, but with a potential Los Angeles relocation looming and Rivers having a stated disinterest in moving to the City of Angels, the situation will likely come to a head sooner rather than later.

The Chargers don't want to lose Rivers, per Gehlken, despite all the pre-draft rumor and rhetoric, but Rivers' interests remain murky. He has indicated that he is "willing to listen to anything," but doesn't seem to be taking a particularly proactive approach with his contract.

It's likely that Rivers is in wait-and-see mode and that his future with the franchise could very well be tied to a potential Los Angeles relocation.
