Four women were killed in a limo crash on Long Island, N.Y., on Saturday afternoon.

Eight women in their mid-twenties gathered for a yearly ritual where they hit the town, went to a wine tasting on a vineyard and then took a ride on a rented limo to their next location when a red pickup truck driven by Steven Romeo slammed into their ride, according to the New York Daily News.

Police identified the victims as Brittney Schulman, 23, and Lauren Baruch, 24, both of Smithtown; Stephanie Belli, 23, of Kings Park; and Amy Grabina, 23, of Commack, who were all bridesmaids for an upcoming wedding.

The remaining five, Joelle Dimonte, 25, of Elwood; Melissa Angela Crai, 23, of Scarsdale; Alicia Arundel, 24, of Setauket; and Olga Lipets, 24, of Brooklyn; along with, the limo driver Carlos Pino, 58, were all treated at local hospitals and survived, according to The New York Times.

Romeo, 55, of Southold, has been charged with driving while intoxicated, according to Inquisitr. Prosecutors indicated that this misdemeanor charge could be upgraded.

"Right now, we're continuing the investigation and looking into upgrading the charges significantly," said Elizabeth Miller, an assistant district attorney in Suffolk County. Romeo's blood-alcohol level was not made public. After being arraigned in the hospital, Romeo pleaded not guilty. He is being held on $500,000 cash or $1 million bond.

The women killed in the limo crash were "doing the right thing," said Arundel's stepdad. The women didn't want to have to drive after going out drinking, so they rented a limo.
