There's some good and bad news for a couple of NL West teams. The good news is that the Arizona Diamondbacks signed the No. 1 overall pick before Friday's 2 p.m. deadline. The bad news is that the Los Angeles Dodgers failed to sign one of their first-round picks.

Vanderbilt shortstop Dansby Swanson, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 MLB June Amateur Draft, agreed on a $6.5 million signing bonus with the D-Backs, according to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 Phoenix. Arizona signed the 21-year-old for about $2 million less than their allotted $8,616,900 for the draft pick.

Swanson was the first of three shortstops selected with the top three picks in tis year's draft. He led the Vanderbilt Commodores to the College World Series and batted .335/.423/.623 with 76 runs scored, 15 home runs, 64 RBIs and 16 stolen bases in 71 games this past season.

He won Most Outstanding Player of the 2014 College World Series after Vanderbilt's win over the Virginia Cavaliers, but UVA got revenge on Vandy this year and beat them in a rematch last month.

Speaking of Vanderbilt, starting pitcher Walker Buehler signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers today for $1.78 million, according to Jim Callis of MLB.com, which was under the $2,094,400 slot.

The Dodgers selected Buehler with the No. 24 overall pick, but were unable to sign the No. 35 overall pick, starter Kyle Funkhouser out of the University of Louisville. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports first reported the speculation of Funkhouser returning to Louisville for his senior season.

And that's exactly what the right-hander decided to do.

The Dodgers offered him about $2 million, but Funkhouser (his agent is Scott Boras) likely feels he can get taken in the top 10 next year being that he fell far down this past June.

He went 8-5 with a 3.20 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 17 starts his junior season.

Los Angeles will get a compensation pick for failing to sign Funkhouser.

UPDATE: More bad news for the Dodgers, as Jon Heyman of CBS Sports is reporting Buehler needs Tommy John surgery.
