Arizona Cardinals defensive back Tyrann Mathieu knows a thing or two about burning. However, even the "Honey Badger" can't withstand the unbearable heat inside a car during the summer.

The former LSU Tiger sat inside a hot car with 90-degree heat sizzling down outside. PETA challenged the NFL'er to see how long he could last in the scalding temperature, according to USA Today. The final count? Eight minutes. The interior of the car reached an astounding 120 degrees, according to Deadspin, which is a dangerous temperature for a human or animal to be exposed to for a long period of time. Mathieu urges everyone to take proper care of your pets, especially in weather like this.

"If you're going to make a dog a part of your family, then make him a part of your family," Mathieu said. "Don't treat him like you wouldn't treat someone you cared about or someone you loved."

PETA tells pet owners to leave your pets at home, regardless if it is cloudy outside or the windows of your car are rolled down. Animals exposed to extreme heat can suffer organ failure and eventually death, Yahoo! reports. The organization adds that this can occur in animals rather quickly, so even if you think you will return to your car promptly, it may be too late.

"I seriously couldn't imagine leaving my dog in a car like this," Mathieu said in the video.
