It's been six years since actress, singer and new mom Hilary Duff has released a studio album, and fans have been eagerly anticipating new music from the star ever since. Now that Duff is hard at work on album No. 5, what can we expect from the former Disney queen?

Earlier this month, Duff announced her official return to the studio, and back in June, the superstar mama teased her fans on Instagram about her upcoming music. Her last studio album, "Dignity," was released under Hollywood Records in 2007, featuring an array of electropop anthems including the hits "Play With Fire" and "With Love." In 2008, her former label released "The Best of Hilary Duff," a compilation album of her most popular songs, and the following year, Duff contributed a song called "Any Other Day" to the "What Goes Up" movie soundtrack.

Since then, we haven't heard any new Hilary Duff music, though all of that is soon about to change. In a Twitter exchange with Idolator, Duff was asked: "How different is your upcoming album gonna be compared to the others?," to which she responded, "[I'm] super into EDM [electronic dance music]. definitely catchy hooks i've always cared alot abt lyrics & love 2 dance!"

Fans replied with excitement, as Duff's upbeat pop music has always been a favorite among them, and "Dignity" has often been referred to as the peak of her musical career.

In a recent interview with Idolator, Duff not only confirmed her interest in dabbling in EDM, but revealed that her "music has always been very lyrically driven" as well.

"I care so much about that. So that's my only thing," she said. "There are so many artists that I love but I'm like, 'I can't connect to that, so I don't really know what it means.' It's too abstract for me to follow. I can still sing along and love it, but I'm not totally stuck on it, because I'm really attracted to lyrics. I want to keep that in the back of my mind."

And although Duff went back to the studio last summer to work with the likes of Martin Johnson (Avril Lavigne, Victoria Justice), Matt Squire (Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato) and Ali Tamposi (Kelly Clarkson, Ciara), Duff explained that fans shouldn't expect to hear any of those tracks, many of which have been left on the cutting room floor.

"That was over a year back when I was just not talking about it, but wanting to flex my muscles again in the studio," she told Idolator. "That sound isn't really where I want to go."

However, Duff added that her new music may sound more like her 2003 hit "Come Clean" off of her debut album "Metamorphosis."

"[Come Clean] is something that I'll take and say, 'Like this, but let's make it more current.' It's such a great song," she said.
