Cara Delevingne had to defend her sexuality after an interview with Vogue magazine implied her bisexuality was "just a phase." The in-depth interview sparked outrage and led more than 12,500 people to sign a petition demanding the magazine issue her a formal apology.
Vogue writer Rob Haskell second guessed her sexuality, writing, "Her parents seem to think girls are just a phase for Cara, and they may be correct." The "Paper Towns" actress could not disagree more. "My sexuality is not a phase," she told the New York Times. "I am who I am."
While Delevingne had to come to terms with being bisexual, it did take her a while. "It took me a long time to accept the idea, until I first fell in love with a girl at 20 and recognized that I had to accept it," she said. Being in love always helps. The model also discussed her relationship with musician St. Vincent, saying, "I think that being in love with my girlfriend is a big part of why I'm feeling so happy with who I am these days. And for those words to come out of my mouth is actually a miracle."
Asked by the Times about the petition, Delevingne confessed that she was flattered that so many people were looking out for her but she saw "nothing malicious" in the article itself.
