"Aladdin" is the latest Disney animated film that will get the live-action treatment. The studio is developing "Genies," a comedy-adventure being written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Tripp Vinson, who is also working on a live-action Prince Charming movie for Disney, is attached to produce.

"Aladdin" is a centuries-old Arabic folk tale that got the animated treatment in 1992, with Robin Williams voicing the Genie character. As the title indicates, "Genies" would focus on the supernatural creatures of Arabian folklore, reported the Los Angeles Times. The new project will also reveal how the Genie from "Aladdin" ended up enslaved in the lamp in the first place. Although "Genies" is still in the early stages of development, the long-term plan is to have the project lead into an "Aladdin" live-action movie.

Disney has made several successful live-action reboots of classic fairy tales, including "Maleficent" with Angelina Jolie and "Cinderella" with Lily James. The studio is also working on live-action versions of "Beauty and the Beast," "Pinocchio," "Mulan," "The Jungle Book" and "Dumbo," reported People.
