The brother of Kate Steinle, the woman who was gunned down by an illegal immigrant on July 3, slammed Donald Trump in an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper, the New York Daily News reported. Kate's brother, Brad, said Trump never reached out to the family before using her name to promote his controversial stance on illegal immigration.

"Donald Trump talks about Kate Steinle like he knows her. I've never heard a word from his campaign manager, never heard a word from him," Brad told Anderson Cooper. "It's disconcerting, and I don't want to be affiliated with somebody who doesn't have the common courtesy to reach out and ask about Kate and ask about our political views and what we want."

Police said Steinle was shot and killed on Pier 14 on the Embarcadero waterfront in San Francisco by 45-year-old Francisco Sanchez. An illegal immigrant and seasoned criminal, Sanchez's background record shows he's been deported five times.

Brad said Trump is sensationalizing the death of his sister for political gain. While the Steinle family called for stricter rules on illegal immigration and deportation policies, Brad said their views don't align with Trump's far-right ones.

"We believe in the right for people to come to this country with the idea that's it's the place where you can better provide for your family and if you're here trying to obtain that goal then you're in the right place," Brad said. "If you're a criminal and you're here to sell drugs, commit violent crimes, you should be kicked out of the country as soon as possible or sent to jail."
