Filmmaker George Lucas, singer-songwriter Carole King and rock band the Eagles are just three of the artists that will be saluted at the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors, the performing arts center announced. Actress/singer Rita Moreno, conductor Seiji Ozawa and actress Cicely Tyson will also be honored.

The ceremony is honoring one more artist than usual, although it follows past tradition by featuring artists from various disciplines and ethnic backgrounds, according to the Washington Post. The artists will be celebrated Dec. 6 at a gala that will be broadcast Dec. 29 on CBS. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will attend, along with other notables from the worlds of showbiz, politics and business, according to Variety.

"When I look at this year's outstanding slate of Honorees, I am struck by a powerful common theme—artists as history-makers, artists who defy both convention and category," said Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter in a statement. "Each Honoree and their career-spanning achievements exemplify a rare quality of artistic bravery."

The 2014 class included Al Green, Tom Hanks, Patricia McBride, Sting and Lily Tomlin, reported the Wall Street Journal.
