A 44-year-old French man has died after being gored by one of the bulls during the Pedreguer festival in eastern Spain.

The man, only identified by his initials, O.L., was attending the festivities with a number of his friends when he was gored by one of the bulls running in the streets, according to USA Today.

The incident happened at about 1 a.m. on Tuesday, while the man was watching the festivities on the sidelines. Though doctors responded immediately, the man's injuries were so severe that he died shortly after.

Due to the tragic accident, local authorities have cancelled other festival-related events that are scheduled this coming Tuesday and Wednesday, according to The Telegraph

The local authorities have also advised the people who are participating in the festivities to "do so responsibly and in accordance with safety standards."

Pedreguer, a small town located in the province of Alicante, in southeastern Spain, is home to its annual bull festival. During the festivities, bulls are set free to charge through the streets, chasing locals and tourists alike.

Spain is famous for its bull festivals during the summertime, the most prominent one being Sanfermines in Pamplona, which ended last Tuesday. During this year's event, ten people were gored, as reported by HNGN. No one among the ten died because of their injuries, however.
