A series of deadly attacks in a number of locations has rocked Baghdad, killing at least 35 people and wounding at least 70 others. The attacks were the latest in a string of violent military operations against the capital, similar to an incident previously covered by HNGN.

The most prominent attack happened in Baghdad's northern Shaab neighborhood, when a suicide bomber detonated a vest filled with explosives in a crowded public market. The suicide bombing claimed nine lives and injured 25 others.

Baghdad's Khazimiyah district also witnessed a suicide car bombing early on Sunday, targeting the Aden checkpoint. The deadly incident killed eight people, five of which are civilians, and wounded another 23, reports Al Jazeera.

Another car bombing took place in the Banook district, where six people were killed and 15 were injured.
A third car bombing happened in a commercial street at Baghdad's al-Askan district, where people gathered after sundown to celebrate the breaking of the day's fast. The incident killed at least four people and injured 11 more.

Attacks have also intensified in Afghanistan, where a car bombing also took place near a U.S. military base. Local officials have stated that the attack has killed 17 civilians, according to The New York Daily News.
Hedayatullah Hamedi, the province's health director, stated that the bodies have been received by a local hospital. Most of the victims of the attack were women and children.

Though no group has yet to claim responsibility for the incidents, suspicions that the Islamic State is behind them runs high, due to the frequency of attacks that the group initiates across the Iraqi capital.
