Maria Menounos is set to be the next anchor of "E! news," filling the spot of long-time host, Giuliana Rancic. Rancic recently revealed she will step down as host of the entertainment network's flagship program so she can concentrate on other projects. E! has reportedly asked Rancic to publicly pass the baton to Menounos, but the transition is not going smoothly, according to the New York Daily News.

Menounos and Rancic are rivals and cannot stand each other, a source close to the show tells Fox News.

"They've always been rivals. Maria sees Giuliana as competition and it goes back years," the source says. "They never speak and they won't appear on-set together. It's kind of unspoken that if she is in the building, Giuliana wants nothing to do with her."

Rancic's exit from "E! News" has been in the works for a while, and the last straw was when the network hired Menounos.

Rancic's last day hosting "E! News" is August 10. She is going to continue to host "Fashion Police" and "Live From the Red Carpet" for E!.
