Way back in the archaic age of 1998, before iPhones and Twitter and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios released their second feature length film. That film was the R-rated "Blade," starring Wesley Snipes, and it was the studio's first box office and critical hit.

The movie, which follows vampire hunter Eric "Blade" Brooks, spawned two sequels and even a short lived television series. Since then, Blade has been kept on the sidelines. But given Marvel's immense success on the big and small screens, the time for a Daywalker return seems to be now and we're not the only ones who think so.

Talking with Deadline at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday, Wesley Snipes confirmed that he has spoken with Marvel about "Blade." While he wouldn't reveal the specifics of the meeting, Snipes did mention that he was open to the idea and was now just waiting on Marvel to make the next move.

"The project is controlled by Marvel and we did have a really productive and wonderful meeting and we discussed a number of things. I don't know where it's on their schedule at this point, that hasn't been decided. I guess it's still up in the air."

Snipes added that he would be happy to join the MCU as Blade or another character, but that he wouldn't be waiting by the phone for a call from Marvel.

"I've always been a fan of these pieces and adaptations and it'd be nice to be a part of the family again. But if we don't do a Blade 4 or something else with Marvel, we'll do something else. We have some other characters and some other concepts that are going to be just as exciting and hopefully just as successful."

Snipes may be thinking "Blade 4," but given the success of the darker tone established by the first season of Netflix's "Daredevil" series, the small screen may be a better fit for the character at this point. This especially true when you remember that the bloody and violent Punisher will be joining Daredevil in season two

Regardless of what happens with the Blade property, it's nice to see Snipes so excited about a potential return. We sure hope Marvel can find a place for him.
