"Jurassic World," much like the dinosaurs it depicts, has sat atop the food chain for a while now. Since its June 12 release, "Jurassic World" has been the top earner at the box office each weekend. But a worthy challenger is fast approaching. "Minions," the "Despicable Me" spinoff, is tracking extremely well among audiences and is primed for a big opening weekend at the box office, according to Deadline. Industry analysts are expecting an opening weekend well above the $100 million mark. Even if it does dethrone "Jurassic World" as box office king, Universal Pictures won't care, as it distributed both films.

The film has already opened in 26 international markets, including Spain, Germany, Brazil and Indonesia. In that time, it has racked up north of $125 million and ranked No. 1 in 15 of those markets. Similar success should be found in the U.S. when the film officially opens on July 10.

"Minions" is following up another smash-hit animation film: "Inside Out." The Pixar film made impressive money in its opening weekend ($90.4 million) but still couldn't knock "Jurassic World" out of the top spot. "Minions" might just be able to, though.

The "Despicable Me" franchise has killed it at the box office in its first two installments. The first film earned $543 million worldwide while its sequel notched a staggering $970 million. It wouldn't be a surprise if this third film in the series approaches or even eclipses those numbers.

"Minions," which tells the origin story of Gru's yellow henchmen, has a large built-in audience and the star power of Sandra Bullock (well, her voice) to back it up.
