Rachel McAdams has been offered to play the female lead role in a forthcoming Marvel movie project, "Doctor Strange," rumor has it.

The Canadian actress, known for her roles in "The Notebook", "Sherlock Holmes", "The Time Traveler's Wife", "Mean Girls" and recently season two of HBO crime series "True Detective," has been rumored to be negotiating with the production of the latest Marvel production led by Scott Derrickson, E! Online reported.

There have been no details reported regarding which character McAdams would be playing, but the character Clea could be a possibility, the publication added. This is one of the key projects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

If the reported negotiations come to fruition, McAdams could star alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, who, according to ComicBook.com, has been selected to play the character of "Doctor Strange," Marvel's mystical hero known for battling the foes from the Dark Dimension.

The film script of "Doctor Strange" was penned by Jon Spaihts. The first draft of the screenplay, however, was written by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. It is targeted to be released in November 2016.
