Last November, Netflix announced it was adapting Lemony Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" book series to a live-action television series, according to Deadline.

On Sunday, a YouTube account (Elenora Poe) posted "An Unfortunate Trailer" and it already has more than 800,000 views. The fan-made trailer fooled most of the Internet into believing the teaser trailer was released by Netflix, but it turns out the streaming site had nothing to do with it.

"This was not released from Netflix and not anything official," a company rep told Entertainment Weekly. The rep did not say whether Netflix would seek to have the clip pulled down.

The trailer looks great, as it shows symbols and themes that are talked about through the book series, including Klaus' glasses, the eye symbol, the lachrymose leeches and the shadow of Count Olaf.

"A Series of Unfortunate Events" is about three orphaned children, Violet, Klaus and Sunny, who are forced to live with the villainous County Olaf as they journey to uncover the mysterious death of their parents, according to Variety.
