Before the birth of Sony's PlayStation in 1994, the company was brainstorming with Nintendo to, believe it or not, concoct a mega-system.

The two companies were working on a system that would be compatible with Super Nintendo Entertainment System and CD games, according to The Telegraph. After two decades, the super system that people could have only dreamed of at the time has surfaced.

Images of the system were posted on Reddit. The system is formally named "Sony PlayStation," but resembles a Super Nintendo more than a PlayStation by far. There is a small digital display to the bottom right of the console with a CD unit right below it on the face. Of course, the console is also compatible with Super Nintendo Entertainment System cartridges.

Dan Diebold, the person who uncovered the lost gaming treasure, says the system was scooped up by his dad during an office clear-out years ago, according to T3. 200 prototypes were made, according to Business Insider, but Sony and Nintendo had a disagreement over copyright material and scrapped the whole project.

The systems were ordered to be destroyed, but one of them happened to survive. Although there is no proof or footage of it working, this console sure is a piece of gaming history and will probably sell for a nice chunk of change should the owner decide to pass it on.
