Carli Lloyd continued her torrid scoring pace and overall fantastic play from the Olympics and the U.S. Women's National Team made short work of Japan by a final score of 5-2 en route to their third World Cup victory on Sunday night.

Two quick goals from Lloyd, both off set pieces, saw Lloyd and the U.S. take a 2-0 lead they would never relinquish and paved the way for a game wherein seven total goals were scored, the most of any women's World Cup Final ever.

Lauren Holiday added an opportunistic goal on a beautiful volley and Lloyd scored an absolute stunner from midfield over the clearly rattled Japanese keeper to give herself a hat trick and the U.S. a four-goal lead and the match was over almost before it ever really began.

The Japanese did their best to make a game of it, adding a couple goals of their own in fairly quick succession - one an unfortunate Julie Johnston own goal - to cut the margin to 4-2, but the effort ultimately proved fruitless as Tobin Heath again stretched the U.S. advantage to three and the American side eventually walked away victorious on the weekend commemorating the nation's biggest and most meaningful holiday.
