A Texas man was attacked and killed by an alligator during a late night swim on Friday.

Police found 28-year-old Tommy Woodward's dead body floating in Adam's Bayou at 4:30 a.m., half a mile down from where he was swimming off Burkart's Marina in Southeastern Texas, according to 12 News.

"The female that was with him saw the alligator come from underneath the dock here in the marina and said 'Hey, there's an alligator.' He acknowledged it and jumped in anyway," Orange Police Captain Robert Enmon said in a statement about the attack, according to news.com.au.

Woodward was attacked immediately.

Employees who work at the bayou said he would regularly swim in the bayou, along with many others, including children.

The massive reptile was previously seen in the area, and signs notifying the public that swimming was off-limits were immediately posted. Woodward, however, opted to break that rule, and it cost him his life.

It was later revealed that the Woodward was drinking prior to the attack, but police said they can't confirm if alcohol was a factor until they receive autopsy results.

The incident is this week's second report of an alligator attack, following the death of a daschund who was devoured by an alligator in Florida.
